Senzo Shabangu is inspired by the impact of migration, and how it affects both the individual, and the society in which the individual finds himself or herself.
In his words:
“Moving with the land is like moving with an aura, moving within yourself, with your whole self.
The exhibition is about Joburg… or wherever we go when we move away from our place of birth. It is about migration and how our movement and the places we inhabit affect and influence us. But the place we go to doesn't make us who we are. Instead, we bring ourselves to the place we go to. We occupy it and make it our home. We make it what it is...”
The art works Senzo has created express this philosophy, along with a playfulness that speaks to enjoying the process. There is also a subtle hint that this talented artist is entering a new chapter in his life.
