"The Introduction Series" is a monthly series of solo exhibitions featuring artists who have never before exhibited in a commercial gallery.

This is a first of its kind in South Africa. Whilst it gives new artists a platform from which to launch their careers, it has the added advantage of providing an affordable way for young people to start investing in art.

The series launched with Giggs Kgole as the 1st featured artist.

Giggs is a remarkable young man. Looking at his work, it is hard to believe he is only 19 years of age, having finished high school last year.

A series of Giggs' work was chosen as part of a body of work to be installed in the prestigious Mount Nelson hotel. The hotel is supporting local artists in their refurbishment to be launched at the beginning of October this year.

Giggs was born in Kutupu Village in Limpopo in 1997 and grew up in Tembisa. He went to primary school in Kempton Park where his father used to work at the nearby Kelvin Power Station. For high school, he won a full scholarship to St John's College in Houghton through the Student Sponsorship Program (SSP), and became the first in his family to reach and pass Matric.

His interest in drawing, architecture, film and design began early on. As a small child living in a rural area, he used to run down to the river in the mornings to collect heaps of mud to mould houses and little tractors to play with once dry. The process of creating toys and games from found resources helped develop his creativity. At 12 years of age he went through the process of initiation which had a significant impact on his life and is explored in his artwork.

Giggs has been fortunate this year to be mentored by William Kentridge. Giggs says that this has "allowed me to express myself creatively and has guided me through the workings of this industry".

His goal for the next two years is to make his presence known, showcase his work, and be able to support himself sufficiently through his creations.

The Julie Miller Investment Art Institute "Introduction Series" is an exciting first of its kind designed to work with new ambitious young artists such as Giggs Kgole and to help them reach their goals. With his drive, enthusiasm and never-ending creative ideas, Giggs is the perfect candidate to launch this programme.
